Hello there. My name is Ashley Lamp and I'm a local artisan in Buffalo, New York.
I went to Buffalo State College and graduated in 2021 with a major in Art and a minor in Art Therapy. I do plan to go back for my masters once I have the time and energy to dedicate to a masters program. My goal is to build my business to a level where I can work solely as an artist and have the freedom to create my own schedule which will allow me to devote the time and energy to a masters program.
Since getting my degree in art, I realized it was hard to find creativity and motivation to make my own art in the mediums I was being graded on in college. I picked up wire wrapping as a hobby during college to stay creative and sane throughout getting my degree. It's been 5 years now since first wrapping a crystal.
I've always been artistic though. For as long as I can remember, I was creating new art for my walls (even painting on my walls), new accessories to wear, and always gifts for my loved ones. Art has been a passion of mine since I could hold a marker.
I grew up having divorced parents from second grade. I hopped back and forth between the town and the city of Tonawanda from the age of 6 to about 16. The few things that never left my side were my iPod to drown the world out; and my sketchbook. I was always doodling. Always painting. Looking back now, the only thing I could control or had any sort of say in, was my art. It wasn't until I was in therapy at age 19 when my therapist at the time told me about Art Therapy. So, until then, all my early teen years I was practicing art as therapy without even knowing it.
The Art Therapy program at Buffalo State was one of the only other times in my life I felt like I was exactly where I belonged. My friends know me as the listener. The one person that they can come to, to confide in and get a different perspective. Helping people through art with their mental health is my purpose for being on this planet. Your subconscious is trying to tell you something; listen to it.
I now vend, stock gift shops, and teach classes all around WNY. Be sure to give me a follow on social media to stay up to date on what I'm doing and where I'll be!
